Royal Descent of Rachel Alston Jones Banks 1769-1851

Royal Descent of Rachel Alston Jones Banks 1769-1851 through her mother Charity Alston, a daughter of Col. Solomon Alston and Anne Hinton, the daughter of Col. John Hinton. Col. Solomon Alston was the son of Major John Alston babtised at Filmersham, Bedfordshire, Dec. 1673. Major John Alston came to North Carolina before 1720. Major Alston was the Associate Justice of the Colony 1724-30. He died in Chowan County, N.C. 1758 and married Mary Clark. Col. John Hinton, emigrant to North Carolina, died 1732, married Mary Hardy, daughter of John Hardy, descendant of Sir Robert Hardy. The Hintons descend from Charlemagne and early European Kings, pp. 20-23. John Alston of Parvenham, England [4th son], d. 1704, married Anne Wallis, and had children including Major John Alston, Associate Justice of the North Carolina colony. The parents of John Alston of Parvenham were Doprothy Temple and John Alston [third son] of Parvenham, Bedfordshire, with the couple marrying Jan. 4th, 1634 at Odell, entered at Inner Temple. Buried at Parvenham, Aug. 15, 1687. John Alston III was the second wife of Sir John Temple, his fahter andlaw. [Kimber and Johnson's "Baronetages" 1771, 1st, 457]. Sir John Temple was a knight of Biddleson andStanton, Bury,[see the National Cyclo of useful Knowledge, xi 938, Nichollls "Herald and Genealogist," VII, Burke's Kimbers, etc. "Baronettages" Lodge's American Heraldic Journal, Jan 1765, Ooct 1866. Sir John Temple married Dorothy Lee, daughter of Edmund Lee of Stanton, Bury and had children including Dorothy Temple, wife of John Alston III. The Temples descend directly from King Alfred, Leofric, Algar, Edwyn [borther in law of King Harold] and other noble and royal lines through Henry de Temple, feudal Baron of Temple Manor and Little Shepe, Leicestershire, England pp. 18-19. Charity Alston also descends from John Palin of North Carolina, died 1737: Auditor 1711, Sheriff 1711, Captain, Associate Justice of Supreme Court 1718-1719-1722, Member of Governing Council 1725, Chief Justice of North Carolina 1731, Member of Assembly for Pasquotank 1734.[From Colonial Dames of America, Georgia Society]. Rachel Alston Jones Banks descends from the following Magna Carta Barons: John FitzRobert, Robert de Vere, Hugh de Vere, Roger Bigod, Hugh Bigod, Richard de Clare, Gilbert de Clare, SSaire de Quincy, pp 23-24. Dorothy Lee, wife of Sir John Temple, descends from the Plantagenets, through her mother Dorothy Browne, daughter of Anthony Browne IIand Mary Dormer. His father Sir Anthony Browne,K.G. was Viscount Montagu, sheriff of Surrey and Sussex, died 1592, married Jane Radcliff, daughter of Robert Radcliff, Earl of Sussex, p. 27. Anthony Browne also descends direclty from King Edward III [1312-77] and his son John of Gaunt, 1340-99, Duke of Lancaster, p. 29.
