Jonathan Whitted Headstone
Jonathan Whitted Birth: Jun. 2, 1801 North Carolina, USA Death: 1866 Vermillion County Indiana, USA Jonathan Whitted was the son of Mary Whitted of Orange County, North Carolina. Because of his illegitimate birth, the Orange County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions ordered that "Jonathan Whithed son of Mary Whithed now of the age of 4 years 2d June last be bound to Isaac Sugars until he arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mystery of a farmer." Jonathan married Nancy Rogers Clark in Orange County, North Carolina in 1821, and after the birth of their sixth child, the family moved to Indiana, settling in Parke County. Nancy died in 1857 and Jonathan remarried the following year to Mary Hunter in Rockville, Parke County. Bio contributed by Anne Field.
